In 1943, at the summit of his sports career, Alfred Nakache is deported to Auschwitz with his wife and daughter. He returns alone from this living hell in May of 1945, emotionally murdered, lessened physically, broken hearted but with rage in his gut. He resumes his training and, in August 1946, he reclaims the French Championship title in the 200 meter butterfly stroke and retires in 1948, after the Olympic Games in London.
